This project had to be something I had never attempted before. Needed to be something that brought together my loves and interests, my love of worldbuilding and writing, and had to be a part of me that could be shown to others.

The Raikonid Field Journal did just that.

A six month endeavor. Any free time I was able to get after finishing off other schoolwork was spent working on this project. The final installation was finished on the last day of set up. This book means so much to me as I poured so much of my soul into it; the enjoyment of writing, creation, and overall process and story while also using the piece as a way to deal with an unexpected loss.

No matter how many times it was said to me that this project shouldn’t be for my family and for myself, I never gave up on it being the piece that it is. This entire thesis is because of my family, both the original idea and context to also wanting to have it be something that could help them with the healing process as well. My loves of fantasy, animals, nature, and creativity all come from my family. To not have them in my mind while creating this piece would have changed the thesis entirely.

While there is no way for an online viewer to interact with it in the same way as holding the piece in your arms, the plan is to work towards a way of showcasing it so that a viewer on this site can also interact with it.
